Sponsor an International Student!
Great changes have occurred throughout the world during the last decade. Many people once trapped behind the closed borders of communism have been set free. Countries with no religious freedom for generations are now free to worship as they choose. Shut away from the world under the pressures of communism, some churches have grown, but many have been stunted. In many places people are responding to the message of Christ, but the churches are full of young Christians. These have real hearts for God, but little access to teaching materials and biblical training.
Americans can send missionaries to teach them, but often visas, language and culture are hindrances. Most of the large, well-established mission organizations require high support for their members. Who is better qualified to live and work in a country than a national? They need no visa, no language acquisition, no adjustment to a different culture. They perfectly understand the way the system works and the way the people think.
How can you help?
1. First, select a young person to sponsor. Pray for them. They face homesickness, loneliness, cultural changes and many difficult moments. Perhaps send a card telling them you are praying for them.
2. Send a “care” package… a small box of cookies, candy or practical items like toiletries, a $5.00 Walmart card, etc. If you live nearby, you could visit them or have them in your home for a meal or weekend. Perhaps you are able to meet small personal needs as they arise (traveling, postage, over the counter medications, etc).
3. Most importantly, prayerfully consider joining us in covering the financial costs of training and housing. We simply do not have the finances to continue this expanding ministry. Your role may be to send a small gift toward support or you may be able to cover larger amounts. Sunday schools or small fellowship groups may commit to partially or fully sponsor a young person.
